Religious Education

Building

Bright

Futures

At Red Hill Primary School, our aim is to provide all children with the opportunity to become religious thinkers. We build children’s skills, knowledge and understanding to help them understand the world they live in and the variety of cultures and religions which make a part of our world.

RE Curriculum

At Red Hill we use the Bexley Agreed Syllabus. We aim:

  1. To provoke challenging questions
  2. To provide a safe and secure setting
  3. To provide a supportive context
  4. To enable learners to develop understanding, respect and empathy for others of different beliefs and practices
  5. To enable learners to consider and understand their responsibility towards themselves, their families, and society

The RE curriculum asks a key question for each lesson for children to explore. We develop children’s knowledge and understanding of the major world faiths. We also encourage children to think about their own views and values in relation to the themes and topics on the RE curriculum. We also celebrate various different festivals throughout the school year.

Religions we look at are:

  1. Christianity
  2. Hinduism
  3. Sikhism
  4. Judaism
  5. Islam
  6. Buddhism

RE in EYFS

In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), RE is taught through knowledge and understanding of the world, where we look at various religious festivals throughout the year. We also teach through the ‘foundational skills’ which includes teaching the skills of enquiry and respecting our differences. These are the important skills, where we encourage children to ask questions and explore answers themselves, such as ‘What is important to me?’ or ‘Why do people do things differently?’.
